Library

Library Open During the Summer

The end of the year is approaching and soon we will be on summer vacation.  We have some notices for parents before the end of the year.

First, please help your children to find and return their library books.  We would appreciate if you could check at home for school library books, and if found, please send them in with your child.  Parents will be asked to pay for replacing any books still outstanding during the last week of school.

Secondly, the Grades 2-5 and Grades 6-12 Libraries will be open each Monday in July and August to parents who wish to bring their children for browsing and borrowing.

Thirdly, students in Grades 6-10 may borrow books for the summer during the last week of school (June 16 -21) as long as they have returned all of the books they borrowed during the year.  Books must be returned to the library during the first week of school in September.

Thanks for returning your books.  Have a great holiday!

SEMEP Club

SEMEP CLUB’S VISIT TO BRUSSELS AND EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
MAY 18-22, 2011
We were in Brussels, known as the capital of Europe from May 18 to May 22. On the first day we visited the Consulate General of Turkey. We talked to the ambassador Nazif Murat Ersavcı and the consul general Mehmet Poroy and they informed us about the role and importance of our country. We also had a tour in the consulate and learned about the transactions that are carried out there.
On the second day we visited the European Parliament. We were taken to the special area at the time of our appointment and were informed about the structure of the parliament and how it operates. Our questions were answered. Then we had a tour in the building and saw the conference rooms.
We spent the rest of the day visiting Sait Köse, the Vice Mayor of Schaerbeek Municipality where many Turks reside and he informed us about the issues they encounter there. We also learned about the historical municipal building. In the evening we attended the May 19 Youth and Sports Day Reception organized by the consulate. At the reception we had the opportunity to talk to senior bureaucrats, mayors, chairs and representatives of NGOs, Turkish businessmen that live in other cities of Europe, academics, Turkish people that live in Brussels.
On the third day, we visited the high school which the Schaerbeek Municipality advised us to see. The Assistant Principal and the project coordinator had a school tour. We have been to Physics, Chemistry, and Graphic Design classes in labs.
In the afternoon we visited the NATO Headquarters. Suat Akgün, the undersecretary and the deputies from the Turkish delegation gave us information about the structure of NATO, its functions, the importance, and role of our country which was enlightening. After this meeting we had a tour in the building. At the end of the day the head of the Turkish Ladies Association which is a NGO picked us from the hotel and we visited the Turkish neighbourhood. The head of the organization talked about the social services that are carried out in order to integrate Turkish women in the neighbourhood.
On the fourth day we visited Bruges, a middle age town which is 1 hour far from Brussels. We were amazed by the town at the end of the day.
On the last day we went to Atomium in Brussels to see the exhibition regarding panoramic view of Brussels and the postmodern architectural projects and then we left Brussels to go back to our country.
